Frequently Asked Questions

What is Osteopathy?

Osteopathy is a system of diagnosis and treatment of the body framework, using manual techniques to encourage the structures of the musculoskeletal system to function correctly.

Diagnosis is made by taking a full medical history, screening tests, and examining movement and muscle tone of the whole body.

Treatment includes manual manipulation of the muscles and joints using a variety of soft tissue massage and joint mobilisation techniques. Cranial osteopathy is also used as a very gentle technique, working with the involuntary movements of the structures within the head and spinal column and is particularly useful in treating conditions within the head, acute problems and babies and children.

Treatments are individually tailored to the patient and are appropriate for their health and specific injury.

Who are the osteopaths at Ruislip Osteopaths?

Yes. We treat patients of all ages, from newborns to the elderly. We use both traditional structural osteopathy and very gentle cranial osteopathic techniques, especially suitable for babies and children.
What happens during a consultation?
At your first appointment, we take a full medical case history and discuss your current problem. You may be asked to undress to your underwear so your posture and movement can be observed and any relevant tests performed. We assess mobility and muscle tone, discuss findings and treatment options, and provide advice on posture, exercise and self-care. Each consultation usually lasts up to 30 minutes.
How do you treat patients?
All treatments are given using our hands—monitoring changes in your tissues and using a variety of techniques tailored to you. We look at the whole body framework, not just the spine but also peripheral joints such as feet, ankles, knees, hips, hands, wrists, elbows and shoulders.
Do you offer cranial osteopathy?
Yes. Anne is highly trained in cranial osteopathy, and also teaches on postgraduate cranial osteopathy courses. Cranial techniques are especially helpful for babies, children, and expectant mothers.
What are your consultation fees?
Adults: £55
Children: £50

Payment is due after each consultation. We accept cash, card, and contactless payments.
